Junior doctors go on strike across the region

Striking junior doctors outside Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge

Hundreds of hospital appointments - including non-emergency surgeries - have been cancelled today as junior doctors across the region strike in protest over proposed changed to their pay and and working hours.

The walk-out began at 8 o'clock this morning and only emergency care is being provided. Milton Keynes Hospital has cancelled 224 appoinments while Northampton General has cancelled nearly 400.

Only emergency care is being provided at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital which has had to cancel 247 outpatient appointments and 22 elective operations. Two more strikes are planned.
